Travel & Accomodation
Travel
Low cost airlines have really opened up this part of the world, with several operators offering daily flights from many UK airports. If you're prepared to travel at the last minute we have seen fares as low as £40.00 return from Gatwick.
The closest airport is Faro, about 45 minutes from us by car. Taxis cost about €50.00 direct to Vila Real de St Antonio.
If you're mixing a family holiday with fishing, you may want to hire a car. Generally car hire in Portugal is relatively cheap, check out the links on the site. Note that if you want to drive in Spain as well you will have to pay an insurance surcharge.
Check out our travel links on the links page.
Accomodation
We can recommend a local bed & breakfast in the middle of Vila Real, about a 4 minute walk to the marina. It has very clean rooms, all with en-suite, the owner also has several restaurants and snack bars, the breakfast included is continental, but he has agreed to offer a full English if required for a couple of euros more. Ask us for his tariff.
Monte Gordo is possibly a better choice if you want a family beach holiday whilst on your fishing trip. There are a choice of hotels according to your taste and budget, have a look on the web.
Monte Gordo also offers plenty of self catering apartments and a few "apartment hotels", have a look on the web.
Further west there are small resorts at Tavira and many small fishing villages up to Faro and beyond.
