Broadbill Swordfish

Broadbills are still fished for commercially off the Algarve coast. They tend to stay in very deep water during the day, and come up to feed at night. Night fishing deadbaits with small lights attached is the best method. We would like to try deep fishing during the day for broadbills, so perhaps 2007 will see a few large specimens boated.

Bream

Plenty of bream species about on the rocks and reefs. Very hard fighting fish on the right tackle, with weights running up to about 30lbs. Also very sought after by the locals for their eating qualities.

Conger

As in the UK, conger abound over the rough ground. Average size is rather small, up to about 30lbs or so.

Bass

If the weather at sea is too rough (fairly rare), we will often target the bass and spotted bass in the river estuary. Small spinners, fish strip baits and live or deadbaits all work.
