Where we are
Vila Real St Antonio
Our boat is berthed in the new marina at Vila Real de St Antonio, a few hundred metres up the Guadiana river.
Vila Real de St Antonio is situated on the far southeastern tip of the Algarve. The Guadiana river is the border with Spain, and the spanish town of Ayamonte is a few hundred metres away across the river. A ferry operates throughout the day so you can pop across to Spain for less than 2 euros.
Vila Real is an old fishing town that is slowly being developed. As one of the last towns on the Algarve to be developed it still has buckets of charm and is not surrounded by high rise appartment blocks. It has loads of interesting architecture, and as you would expect loads of good restaurants, where fresh fish is prepared to perfection for very reasonable prices.
If you've got yourself a hire car, then you can drive across the impressive Guadiana bridge into Spain in about 10 minutes. Alternatively if you head west you can do the whole of the Algarve in a few hours. The main Algarve motorway is about five minutes drive away.
We can obtain good value bed and breakfast accommodation in Vila Real, let us know your requirements and we'll get you a quote.
Monte Gordo
Monte Gordo is a small resort town sporting one of the finest beaches on the Algarve. It somehow manages to maintain the feel of being a small village. In fact you can walk the main street in about five minutes.
Plenty of good restaurants and bars, and of course the beach make this a wonderful area to bring the whole family. If you have family with you, then Monte Gordo is a good bet, have a look on the web for hotels and apartments.
