Reefcat
Reefcat has arrived!
After a long wait, we have finally taken delivery of Reefcat, a brand new 12.0m catamaran based on the Cougar design from Australia. Powered by twin 315hp Yanmar diesel engines, she has the security of two engines, and the ability to fish 50 plus miles offshore.
Reefcat has been purpose-built for offshore sportfishing in the Algarve waters. A large deck area with "Reelax" fighting chair and outriggers. Electric downriggers by "Walker" in order to target Tuna feeding in mid water. A live bait well, insulated fishwells, refrigerator, and a small galley. Plenty of space on the deck for fighting the fish from a stand up position.
Safety & equipement
We have a full commercial licence for up to 12 passengers and two crew. We are equipped with all required safety gear, liferafts, radio, flares, EPIRB etc. and are subject to an annual inspection of the boat and all safety equipment...
We have a full suite of the latest Raymarine electronics, plus back up systems. A state of the art fishfinder linked to the chartplotter and GPS helps find and stay with the fish.
Fishing tackle is supplied. We have full sets of Shimano tackle from IGFA 20lbs to 80lbs line classes, plus end tackle to suit all likely fishing requirements, whether trolling for marlin, or bottom fishing for bream. Of course, if you have a favourite rod/reel combo that you want to try, or even the latest all titanium/diamond marlin lures, just bring them along and we'll rig them for you!
Onboard facilities
The wheel house is large and spacious with comfortable seating and a large table. Ideal for getting out of the sun when you need some shade.
There is also a fully equipped sea toilet.
Reefcat also has a second command station on the flybridge, so we can spot feeding bird, dolphins and other indicators of fish activity. Adult clients are welcome on the flybridge, the view is fantastic. Nothing compares to seeing a "lit up" billfish slashing at the lures, with the expectation that at any moment a rod will bend, the reel screams in protest, and a hooked up fish disappears towards the horizon.
The boat has been designed to allow us to take advantage of all the latest innovative fishing techniques. Don't be surprised if you see us get a few kites out while we're drifting for shark. Kites allow you to suspend a livebait in the top surface of the water. Our sounder will allow us to spot fish in up to 1000metres of water, getting a bait that far down is a bit tricky, but we intend to search for 6 gill sharks in some of the canyons, and maybe fish down to 300 metres or so.
